What I don't recognize is
that Oleg is somehow a separate entity than Greg, with separate knowledge
and separate motives; I find that quite artificial, given that your motives
are (or I assume them to be) to do well in this game, to win, in the sense
that one can win a open-ended game (and in what I would consider to be a
'real roleplaying game', players motives are usually somewhat different).

What I
dislike is the element of roleplaying that often (though far from always)
goes along with it. I don't think roleplaying is inherently bad, I just
think it has its place, and this is not it.
Like I said, if people want to roleplay, go ahead. Just don't expect me to
participate.

OOC - Define "winning" in an open-ended game. You set your own goals,
and then try to reach them. In a game such as this, my definition of
"winning" is to succeed in your goal. If I am playing a Samurai
living by the Busido code as put forth in the "Book of Five Rings",
the goal is to live with honor and die in the service of my Lord. If,
as I am doing in the TAG version, I am a Viking my goal is to die in
battle so as to obtain Valhalla. To interact with me as Spike, the
network admin, is to lose your shirt as "I" do not live by these
goals. In this particular game my goal is to found a great trading
House, and my actions and words are to that effect. Address me as my
character, and always keep in mind that what "I" think of as
advancing my goals is not necessarily what "Aekinskald" thinks are
advancing the goals of his House.
