Re:Taking Things Too Far

A valid argument, which I agree with in some respects. However the fact
remains that the act of accessing somebodies web site by deception is
against the law (at least in my country) whereas accessing information
in a game using deception is not.

The fact that we use spies is no secret. Our web-page has said that from
it's creation. I agree that as we are a secretive and in some ways
underhand organisation then we may not be able to make much of a stand
against this sort of thing: poetic justice etc.

However what if it was, for example, the TIBs site which had been
accessed. Would you be saying then that this was a perfectly valid move?
No, I shouldn't thin so.

Now, outside the game there is no difference between our site, the TIBs
site, the Grand Council's site - they are all web sites, protected by
the same laws.

We have recieved several 'joke' postings in the Times, people ciopying
our announcements and the like. This was fair enough. At the start we
even welcomed it as it gave us someone to argue with. It was realtivly
harmless jesting which made the game slightly more interesting for a
time.

We would have no problem with insults in the Times. We would have no
problem with spies trying to access our organisation. We wouldn't even
have a problem if they did access it and released all our information.
All of these things are in-game, and therefore acceptable.

I fail to see how the attempt to breach our web site was 'in-character'
or spying of any kind. True, I'm sure the only reason whoever did it
wanted it was to find out addresses and the such for in-game purposes.
It does not, however, change the fact that it is an illegal action. (in
the real world)

I apologise in the behalf of the Gamesmaster for not stating clearly in
the rulebook that any illegal actions that you committ in the real world
can not be justified by saying 'they did it in the game, I thought I'd
do it in real life'. Perhaps he should have made that part clearer.

Thank You

Arthur.
