Taking Things Too Far

May the following be considered 'Out of Character' to the fullest
possible extent.

The desinger of our geocities web site has recently recieved a post from
Geocities saying that someone had attmpted to access the password for
the web site, by filling in the lost password form.

This sent a message to the address of the designer, without revealing
said address or password to whoever filled out the form. The designer of
the site is not a member of the Shadow Alliance himself, he offered his
services when it turned out that we weren't suited for each other as a
kind of 'peace-offering'.

Now the way I see it, there are only two possible reasons for wanting to
gain access to our web site:

1) To find out the address of the designer, and link it back to a
faction in the game.

2) To sabotage the site, for whatever reason you may have.

If the reason was 1, then it will be worth noting that the address may
well have led you to a faction in the game, but one that has not had
contact with the SA since the web site went on-line, with the exception
of today. We no longer have any kind of 'relationship' with the faction,
and if it was attacked, destroyed or whatever, although we may
rettaliate, we wouldn't really care.

If the reason was 2, then have you ever heard of any of these legal
terms: fraud, invasion of privacy, criminal damage, vandalism etc?

Now I realise that we aren't doing ourselves any favours by remaining
unknown, and as a result there will be several who want to find out some
information, to discover our secrets so to speak. I really do think that
this action was pushing things too far. It causes unnessecary hassle for
the designer which is thoroughly pointless.

I would like to think that in future we could trust each other to play
the game. For fun, like it is intended to be. No one should be under
threat of hacking or sabotage just because in a game, their players have
information someone elses want.

Arthur,
Leader Of The Shadow Alliance
