The idea for nobles to increase is a good and also seems a lot easier
to implement than troop experience.
The idea of troop experience is a classic good idea that would be
unviable to implement. From my guesses as to how Rich has put the
databases than run Olympia together I would say the troops are not
stored individually but as a generic type ie. the stats for archers
are stored once and each entity just stores the no of archers they
have. To implement troop experience would mean storing each troop as
a seperate entity. This would increase the database size by easily a
factor of 100. It would also mean all the code relating to entities,
movement, transfers, etc, etc would have to be re written and that
would mean probably bugs all over the place. To do that on a live and
commercial system would be monumentally stupid. Also what happens
when new recruits join the unit, part of the unit is transfered, etc.
Not worth the trouble for a minor enhancement.
A better way to make the game better and more enjoyable is to get
more rumours, reports, things of interest happening inside the
existing game structure.
To that end I am putting together a home page for my faction with the
evolving story of my journeys into legend. I have my own server and
effectively unlimited space and am willing to host anybody else's
page who wants to do something similar or anything Olympia related.
