WHAT: 3.5 ed. D&D PBeM in a setting that blends history with myth, legend, folklore, and fantasy. WHERE: Sauromatia, a tribal federation on the territory south of the marshland of Maeotis, west of the Caspian Sea (known to the ancient Greeks as the Hyrcanian Sea), east of the Black Sea (known to the ancient Greeks as Euxine Sea), and north of the Kingdom of Colchis (an ancient nation that roughly coincides with the modern Republic of Georgia). It was located in an area that includes most of both the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasian Federal District of the Russian Federation. To compare the size of the area with nations of today, Sauromatia was larger than Chile, but smaller than Turkey. Sauromatia was larger than Texas, but smaller than Alaska. WHEN: This campaign will begin as soon as all of the characters are ready. Within the game, it is noon on August 7, 600 B.C. It is summer and the current temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). This is during the reigns of Madyes of the Scythian Empire, Kyaxares of the Median Empire, Alyattes of the Kingdom of Lydia, Nebuchadrezzar of the Babylonian Empire, Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt, and Jehoiakim of the Kingdom of Judah. Please keep in mind when choosing equipment that some of the equipment available in medieval D&D games would be unavailable in an ancient setting from over 26 centuries ago. For example, crossbows and alchemist's fire have not yet been invented. HOW: If you're interested, please e-mail me at ivansguard-rpg@yahoo.com. If you need any help in preparing a character sheet, or only have an earlier edition of D&D to work with, just let me know. Feel free to ask questions. I understand that this is a geographically and historically obscure setting so you're welcome to join the game without having any prior knowledge of the Sauromatae or their land.
