DescriptionMajestic pines that sweep the skyline, the eerie glow of Aurora Borealis, pure white snow and the mystical blue of the Arctic sky - this is the wild north; Novaya Sibir. In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the end of the world. It is said that the end will be preceded by Fimbulvetr, the winter of winters. A new ice age. This is the beginning of the end. The wolf Skoll will devour the sun, and his brother Hati will eat the moon, plunging the earth into darkness. The stars will vanish from the sky.
In the year 2015, the world is on the brink of Ragnarok. A shifting climate and ever-changing Earth is moving towards Fimbulvetr. A majority of the population is unaware. Whispers of drastic climatic changes are abounding in the scientific community, but most regard it as nothing to be concerned about. And far, far away from all of this, lies Novaya Sibir, a frozen island in the Bering Straight between Siberia and Alaska where the ancient land-bridge once stretched; recently arisen from the sea. Thus far unclaimed by any nation or government, Novaya Sibir is a wild, untouched and lawless land; the new "wild west".
In the depths of the cruel arctic winters, an 'ice bridge' is formed, connecting Novaya Sibir to Siberia and occasionally Alaska as well. Wildlife migrates across this ice bridge; caribou cross in search of food, and thus are followed by the wolves who hunt them. As the ice bridge melts, these creatures are stranded upon the island, and become its inhabitants. Researchers from various walks of life see Novaya Sibir as a literal gold mine of information and opportunity. The small natural wolf population becomes a focus of attention to these researchers who trap and transport wolves from North America onto the island to widen the gene pool for study. Animals continue to find their way onto the island by other means as well; via the ice bridge or otherwise. Fur-trappers, hunters, and outfitter operations see Novaya Sibir as their own goldmine as well; a place where there is no law, and thus, the hunting of wolves and other animals is not regulated. The fringe of northern society stake claim to small divisions of land where there are no taxes to pay, no law enforcement to tell them otherwise.
There is only one rule on Novaya Sibir, only one law. Survival of the fittest.
