If this change goes through, I'd just suggest that you make the
nominal value start out at a pretty high value, like say 100.
This just ensures that you can have fine granularity changes. The
trouble with other games that use speed I've seen is simply that +1
is a huge change (the nominal speed is usually 1). If everyone
starts out at 100, then an artifact granting +15, or a skill similar
to "defense" that lets you improve at +1 per month, or a curse that
slows a stack by -5, can be interesting rather than unbalancing. If
everyone starts out at 1 (or even 10), then +1 is too big an increment.
