With all the talk about 'control' of provinces, I am surprised this
discussion hasn't crept up earlier. How can a medieval army be
expected to hold and patrol absolutely a region as large as 30 days
across. If you figure a person can walk 15 miles a day (rather
conservative), you are looking at a region 450 miles across. Now I
know that this varies a great deal (roads, transport, etc.) but to
be able to control this area absolutely would be streaching things
a little.
Now if hexes were implemented, it would definitely get harder and
harder the larger you got but it would still be possible to carve
out large empires. I would imagine that feudalism would emerge in
Olympia.
Anyways that is just my opinion. I realize that it would mean much
work for the programming gods but it would add a great deal to
the Olympia universe.
