Linux on the Sony PCG-F430 Laptop

I purchased this notebook (reconditioned) on January 15, 2001. There are other pages covering this laptop, but I am using a more recent OS, and things are much easier than the Good Old Days.

I installed RedHat 7.2.

Everything pretty much "just works". The video configured itself correctly. The sound driver is picked correctly; however, you can't hear the sample sound until you run /usr/bin/aumix and up both the "Vol" and "Pcm" settings. I downloaded the most recent version of the Ogle DVD player and it was fine. Didn't try the winmodem. I have a Linksys "Instannt Wireless" WPC11 PCMCIA card, works great, as does my Click! PCMCIA floppy, and my DLink DMF560TX ethernet/modem card.

Boring, eh? Bliss!
