Unevent and Curia

December 6 - 7

The Canton of Kappellenberg will host Unevent and Their Majesty's Curia in Greenlaw Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. All officers should plan on attending Unevent on Saturday. The populace at large is welcome to attend both days activities, although the order meetings are restricted to members of that order. The schedule for Saturday's activities is below:

The site will reopen on Sunday morning at 8:30 am for Their Majesties Curia which will start promptly at 9:30 am. Unevent is in garb, and Curia is in mundane clothing. The site will close at Noon on Sunday.

The site is two blocks from downtown Chapel Hill, so food will be easily available. The canton may sell a simple lunch if there is interest, otherwise the weekend's activities are free! The canton is also hoping to hold a dance and dessert revel in the evening.

Directions:

Take your best route to I-40 in the RTP area of North Carolina. Coming from the east, get off on NC Highway 54 (exit #273B) headed west. Where Highway 54 turns, pass UNDER the overpass and continue straight onto South Rd. After entering campus and crossing Raleigh St., you will pass the site on your right (look for a large banner); continue on past the Bell Tower on your left and turn left into the Bell Tower parking lot, which should not charge us for parking.

Coming from the west, get off on NC Highway 86 headed south. Pass downtown Chapel Hill and enter campus; where 86 ends, turn left. Go through two stop signs and turn right at the first light (Raleigh St.) The next light is South St.; turn right there and follow the directions above.


Feast of the Winter Solstice

December 13

The Canton of Hawkwood invites you to the beautiful Canton of Bælfire Dunn for Sacred Stone's Winter Solstice to help us celebrate the Yuletide of old and new. The site is the Longview Recreation Center in Hickory, NC which opens at 9am and closes at 10pm. This site is dry.

The Day: Games- bring your period games for old and young! Help decorate our tree. Baronial Curia will be held by Her Excellency, Baroness Rachel de Johnstone. A Baronial fighter practice will be conducted in the afternoon, and an A&S tea will be held for all officers.

A & S Competition: In theme with the games, we will be looking for Best Period Playing Cards. There will also be a Best Period Baked Good competition and an open display.

The Cost: $10.00 on-board, $5.00 off-board. Children 6-12 are half-price and children 5 and under are guests of the Barony. Make checks payable to: The Barony of Sacred Stone/SCA, Inc. Feast is limited to 100 people.

Directions:

From I-40 take exit 123- Hwy 70 & 321. Exit onto 321 North, and got to the third stoplight. There will be a McDonalds on your right and an Exxon on your left. Turn left onto 2nd Avenue NW. Follow this road approx. 1.5 miles and the site is on your left.


Masked Ball

December 13

Greetings to the kind gentles of Atlantia! This year, Caer Mear's Masked Ball will be hosted by the College sometimes known as Caer Gelin in Palmyra, Virginia. The site will open at 11:00 a.m. Revelry throughout the day will include cambok, children's activities, mask making workshops, and dance practices.

After Feast there will be a Procession of Masks before Their Excellencies Lecelin and Werhener. The Great Hall will be prepared for dancing thoughout the evening. The site will close for clean up at 11:00 p.m.

The cost of the day's festivities will be $8 on board and $3 off board. Children's prices $5 on board and $2 off board. Please make checks payable to "College of Caer Gelin, SCA, Inc." Directions:

From the East: take your best route to I-64 West. Turn south on Route 15 at Zion Crossroads. Follow 15S for approximately 10 miles (you will pass through the town of Palmyra) Fluvanna County High School is just off 15S on Rt 649. There will be signs.

From the West: Take your best route to I-64 East and follow the directions from Zion Crossroads.


Mid-Winter's Tale

December 20

Greetings to one and all from the Shire of Border Vale Keep! Come one, come all to the Mid- Winter's Tale - a laid back potluck/arts event. There will be Heavy fighting (yes this is an art form) and Rapier during the day. There will also be an Arts and Sciences competition (Atlantian A&S rules) with plenty of prizes. In the evening everyone will be able to show off their culinary talents and a bardic circle is planned after feast. There is plenty of refrigerator space for potluck dishes that need refrigeration. The site opens at 9 am on Saturday and closes at 1 pm on Sunday.

Cost for the event: $3.00 for adults, $1,00 for children 6 - 12, and free for those under 6. Please make checks payable to the Shire of Border Vale Keep/SCA, Inc.

The site is Camp Tanglewood, 4687 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907. Take I-20 to Washington Road exit towards Martinez to Columbia Road. Take the left fork onto Columbia Road and go until you see the Camp Tanglewood/SCA signs.
