Post-Pennsic Dessert Revel

For those who are suffering post-Pennsic withdrawal symptoms, the Barony of Stor vik once again presents the Post-Pennsic dessert revel. It will be held from 6 until 11 p.m. at the Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in College Park, Md., the same place as last year.

The evening will feature the traditional war story contest, telling us what you did or saw or heard, (or thought you saw), at the War. There will also be dancing (musicians contact Felicia). The hall is not air-conditioned so dress appropriately.

To slake the thirst of all the dancers and storytellers, the barony will provide lemonade, iced tea, and wine. Church rules allow only wine to be used. We will provide some desser ts but gentles are encouraged to bring their own favorites. A kitchen is available for warming or refrigeration. There will be a prize for the best period dessert - minimal documentation should be provided for those in competition.

Fees: $4 with a dessert, $5 without a dessert, $2 children 5 through 12. Please make checks payable to the Barony of Storvik/SCA, Inc.

Sacred Stone's 15th Baronial Birthday

August 29 - September 01

The Barony of the Sacred Stone and the Canton of Aire du Falchon invite you to s hare in the joy of SACRED STONE'S FIFTEENTH BIRTHDAY! Yes, it really has been fifteen years.

This wonderful celebration will be held on August 29, 30, 31, and September 1, ( Labor Day weekend) at Camp York, Kings Mountain State Park. The site opens at 5:00 pm on F riday, August 29 and closes at 12:00 noon on Monday (that's not a typo) September 1.

We will have absolutely something for everyone. Heavy fighting will be held on S aturday, August 30 and rapier will be on Sunday, August 31. Archery will be held both day s.

The Baronial Rapier, Heavy and Archery Champions will be chosen this weekend! Th e Heavy fighting will consist of TWO tourneys, one for choosing the Baronial Heavy Champ ion and an Open Points Tourney; all the fighting you could ever want! The Rapier fighting will be set up the same way. The Target Archery Competition will be held on Saturday. The Comba t Archery Competition will be held on Sunday. Entrants for the Baronial Archery Champion s hould participate in both competitions. All entrants for *any* of the Champions' compe titions must bring an item to be entered in the open A & S competition.

There will be two A & S Competitions, the first being an Open Competition, t he second, a Subtlety Competition. The subtlety entries will be judged at feast on Sunday nig ht. Any subtleties donated by the entrants will be used as refreshments during the court dancing which will take place after Sunday's feast.

There will be a tavern running from Friday evening (get your Friday supper here! ), through the day Saturday (breakfast, lunch, supper and late night snack) until Sunday at lun chtime. The tavern will clear away on Sunday afternoon and feast will be held on Sunday even ing. The tavern will be full of games, activities, and middle eastern dancing; a real pla ce to come and relax with all those folks from oh so long ago! What a chance to "Remember when . .." and "What ever happened to . . ."

Both Saturday and Sunday will see Children's Activities such as making banners, leather work, a boffer tourney, candle decorating, pottery, period games and dancing. There will be a Children's Court as well. Parents are asked to donate one hour of time per child to these a ctivities.

And if all this activity were not enough, there will be a Quest running througho ut the weekend in honor of this important birthday. Details on the quest and all the other exciti ng activities will be available at troll. Also, Her Excellency, Baroness Rachel de Johnstone, will hol d her Baronial Curia on Saturday evening. All members of the Barony are asked to attend.

On board includes feast and a voucher for the tavern. On site means spending the night.

From the SOUTH: Take your best route to I-85 just north of the SC/NC bord er. Take Exit #2 (King's Mountain Military Park). Go south (right turn) on 216 through th e Military Park to King's Mountain State Park. Turn right at the sign marked Group Camps. At the "Y", bear left to Camp Cherokee. Please strictly obey all posted "Speed Limit' signs within the Park.

From the NORTH: Take your best route to I-85 in North Carolina just south of Charlotte. Take Exit #8 (King's Mountain). At the top of the ramp, turn left. Wh en the road come to a fork, bear right. You will stay on this road for about 7 miles until y ou see a small field with a split rail fence on the right hand side. Turn right after the fence into the entrance of King's Mountain State Park (there is a package goods store on the left of this "T" inte rsection. Follow the road through the park to the Living History/Organized Camp sign and turn lef t. At the "Y", bear left to Camp Cherokee. Please strictly obey all posted "Speed Limit' signs within the Park.
