St. Dorothea's Day Massacre & Masque II

Saturday, April 29, 1995

The Incipient Shire of Sylvan Glen welcomes one and all to a day and evening of unforgettable fun as we host our second event ever!

[ The event features: heavy, rapier, target archery, dance classes, a medieval games tourney, and an all-inclusive A&S competition. ]

The A&S theme is apples (St. Dorothea is the patron saint of applies, after all): the A&S categories are yours to choose -- carve, cook, perform, embroider -- any form is fine, just as long as it is in Medieval or Renaissance style and has something to do with apples. Children's activities will be provided for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

After that, we'll retire to a sumptuous and hearty two-course feast. Then an air of mystery descends as we don our masks and attend the masque. [ Prizes for the best male & female masks. ] A dessert bar will be available for all.

The site opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes around 10:30 p.m. Merchants are welcome [ tables provided ], but please pre-register and tell us what you intend to merchant. No outside setups please. Entertainers & musicians for the masque greatly desired.

On, member: $8 before April 15, $10 after. Children <=10 $4/$5. Children <=4 free, but preregister so they can plan activities. Offboard $4. Day trip/outboard $2.

The Sixth Annual Ladys Day Tourney

The Barony of Dun Carraig invites all the gentles of Atlantia to come forth and help us celebrate the Faire of the Fair Sex on April 29, 1995 at our Sixth Annual Ladys Day Tourney. The site for this event is Christ Child Camp located on the banks of the Patuxent River in St. Leonard, Maryland.

The Heavy Weapon, Rapier and Archery tournies will consist of three parts: the fighter/archer must compose an original poem or prosaic work extolling the virtues of the one for whom they compete; the tourney itself, and, the one being championed must create a favour for the fighter/archer (the favor cannot have been entered in a competition before). A winner will be chosen for each part, with the overall winning couples being based on the greatest number of points collected.

The Feast is being prepared by our own Lady Elewyiss the Jew, one of our Baronys finest cooks. A list of ingredients will be available at the Troll for those with dietary concerns. If you have specific questions, please contact the Autocrat.

A&S Competition: In addition to the competitions for poetry and favours as listed above, there will be contests for the best accessory (hats, sleeves, handmade jewelry, etc.) and pottery.

The site will open at 10:00am and close at 11:00pm. Weapons inspections will take place at 11:00am and the Tourneys will commence with the Poetry recitation promptly at Noon. Their Excellencies will hold court at 5:00pm, the feast will be at 6pm and there will be dancing in the evening if time permits. Any musicians who wish to volunteer their services will be gratefully welcomed.

Please take note that we have an enormous amount of land at the site for day pavilions, feel free to bring yours if you wish. The site is WET but we will not be having camping so please exercise restraint.
