I've checked over my logs, although it was indeed a small army
(compared to some of the 3000+ stack seen moving around sometimes)
the castle destroyed outside Adalgar was very completed and,
in fact, one of the oldest castles in this game.

It used to be known as the Crystal Parapets, and construction of
it was started somewhere during the first 10 turns of G2.

When Count Drakyn chose to leave the game, the castle was
left to the Nation (although I don't know if intentionally so, or
they just happened to be closest by when he quit).

It's sad to see such an ancient building get wasted, but in
those days people unfortunately still hadn't learned the
error of not building castles inside cities.
