Through most of human history, it was an eye (or two) for an eye.
Humanistic and/or "Civilized" responses are a new invention of well
educated masses with a decent sense of where their next meal is
coming from. In our simulated period of history, nobility DID follow
the old adage..."Rape, Then pillage, Then burn!" If I have to tell
you why they are in that order.........
Read Sun Tsu, the Icelandic Codes or even the older Jewish laws. Send
a "few raids" against my territory and I set out on a Jihad to wipe
you out. If I don't, it is because I can't and am biding my time
until I can..........
