Oh pleeeeease! Us nobles are not constrained by the peevish rules by
which the unruly mobs seek vainly to govern themselves. One wonders
where all this talk of law will lead: perhaps some day the peasants
will rise up & chop off all our heads as they lead their unruly mob from
civility to democracy & then again to chaos & barbarism.

No, the commoners need noble leadership. That's the way of us nobles to
see things.

In other words:

I didn't break the law, I _am_ the law!
