As pointed out, I know this horror. The way the rules are written, it is
supposed to be clear that NP loss is not supposed to be any part of the
game.
(I wonder if laying to rest v. rotting has produced different results. My
guy rotted)

If Rich really intends this desert'n'die thing to damage people, we now
have the game loophole needed to make war painful:
Find an enemy.
Beat his contract or fear nobles in battle.
Hold them prisoner until their loyalty lapses.
Kill them.
No NP comes home.

I cannot read the letter or the spirit of the rules to countenance this.
It looks like it clearly is a bug that, for whatever more pressing reason,
Rich has not bothered to fix. This has harmed me, Jon, Keith Hearn, and
others. Although we has lost so many noble-days of use of the NP, I guess
that Rich thinks us of no worse off than a late entrant to the game.
Still, we're getting reamed because we expected the rules to work the way
they're written. We have a right to be torqued off.
Rich, do something, or else we'll be forced to coninue to play in a
vaguely pissed-off mood.
