ship attacks?

Hi,
How does one attack a ship at sea? If my ship and the target ship are in the same
sea province do I simply give an attack order or do I need to try and move to
the target ship first?
What happens after battle if I win? Do I move to the ship? Do I simply gain
the possessions?
Can an attack be made on a ship at sea by flying on or to the ship and attacking?
Any help or experiences will be appareciated.
