Yes you would have to do that, since only your nobles may choose how
far behind they want to be, the soldiers are always as fare behind as
the noble owing them.

By the way I would put both the pikemen and
swordsmen in the first row because otherwise the pikemen wouldn't be
able to fight until all the swordsmen were dead, would they?
