Stay, if you list, O passer by the way; Yet night approaches; better not to stay. I never sigh, nor flush, nor knit the brow, Nor grieve to think how ill God made me, now. Here, with one balm for many fevers found, Whole of an ancient evil, I sleep sound.

Many people have written to Western Drucartan asking how they can get involved in the important work that's going on here. People are moved by their philanthropic instincts to try to join in and make the Land a better place. Hard as it is to accept, there's really nothing they can do to help at this time. The work that is being done to offset the damage done at the Ritual of Desecration is proceeding slowly. Very little of the Spoiled Plains has been restored even at this time, and the fragile ecosystems of Grimmerdhore Forest and even glorious Andelain remain only precariously balanced. At this time, we must ask all visitors to refrain from lingering in Western Drucartan, and to keep from bringing any but the smallest parties to visit. One day the aliantha and hurtloam will again flourish, but right now it is all we can do to keep the Ur-Vile loremasters in check and suppress the worst depradations of the cavewights. Visitors will only interfere.
Our thanks for your interest,
Saltheart Foamfollower, for the Lords of Revelstone

Because of fear of unrest and a large influx of immigrants to a continent with low resources, visitors to Eastern Drucartan are asked to procure a visa before entering the area. ( We define Eastern Drucartan as the area of Drucartan that is east of the Uldim Pass).
If you want a visa, please send a message to John Sen[m6f], describing the nobles in the party, the size of the party, and the reason for visiting Eastern Drucartan. There is no fee, and requests will only be refused in rare ( i.e. I am bringing 2000 men to kill all nobles ) circumstances.

Oleg may be dead, but Oleg's jihad lives on! I would like to thank all of you who have provided me with information, last rites, scrying, and malitary support through these trouble times. The AOO must be defeated, or a dark shadow will be cast across the entire world!

MAPS MAPS MAPS
I am now currently assembling data for the second major revision of the maps, which will include more information on Western Provinia, Krussos, the Ossicus/Tollus strait, West Camaris, and more! Revisions will be available to my current customers for half price; for everyone else, the price will go up. This will happen within the next few months, so if you want your map at the cheeper price, get yours today!
Likewise, I am especially interested in gathering information from the far flung corners of the world for the second edition. If you've been thinking about sending me mapping data in exchange for a map, now's the time -- otherwise you may have to wait months to see your area in print.
Remember, newbies flock to blank spaces on the map like flies to honey! But if they see that your area is mapped, they'll know someone is there already, and they'll be more likely to explore elsewhere! Mapping is the best way of keeping your privact!
What are these maps? They are drawn in 7 colors, with graphical symbols representing all kinds of terrain and internal locations. They are available by surface mail only, when you pay the Illustrated Man (s5e) 50 gold in the Imperial City, or send me the terrain of ten provinces. I will send you a map of Provinia, and a map of the entire known world as well.
EXTRA DEALS!!!>>> We will make custom maps! Let us know the size, scale and quantity of any maps you want made, and we'll quote you a price! Want a blowup of your kingdom five pages wide by five pages high? Write the Illustrated Man (s5e) and we'll talk!

The Olympia Atlas is accepting contributions, and is available for download! Be the first to contribute information for unexplored lands (Faery).
In the tradition of Oleg's Map (tm), the Atlas is a compilation of geographical information useful for explorers, traders, and adventurers. Best of all, it's absolutely free!
To contribute to the Atlas, simply send turn excerpts (cut out all the incriminating parts) that contain the following information:
o) Mapping data (region & route info) o) City market reports o) City skills lists o) Inner locations
and send it to sx6@g1.pbm.com. We'll include it into the next version of the Atlas.
The Atlas is available by ftp from your nearest PBM ftp site (ftp.erg.sri.com in the USA, check the PBM FAQ for other sites), in the directory /pub/pbm/olympia, as atlas.X, where X is the turn of the last update.
The Atlas is also available on the PBMGames forum on CompuServe, in the fantasy games section, as atlas.oly.

Tired of remembering the code number for "Perform Common Tasks for Gold?" Ever lose valuable time because you inverted those pesky numbers in orders? Ever drop the wrong item? Nothing like issuing "drop 1 95" instead of "drop 95 1" to ruin your whole month! If this has ever happened to you, you need - DISPATCHomatic!
DISPATCHomatic is a Perl script which replaces English words with Olympia codes. DISPATCHomatic provides some syntax checking, and can also mail the orders automatically*!
What does all of this cost you? 500 gold? Less. 200 gold? No. DISPATCHomatic is ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Send email to Mandrake
with five province reports not in the Atlas, and I'll send you the program. If you send a city report, or 10 province reports not in the atlas, I'll provide free automatic updates as I improve the program. *DISPATCHomatic has only been tested on Un*x workstations. The Perl utility is required.

--- Doubter
Did I complain once or twice about being on ship, bored, with nothing to do for 8 months? Oh how I long to return to those days! Twas a simple life: "Captain, steady as she goes. Men, keep practicing.". Now it's a veritable maelstrom of activity: Stacks to maneuver, units to rendezvous, dozens of workers to feed, lumber to harvest, stone to quarry, nobles to torture, fishing to coordinate, provinces to pillage. It's gonna take 10 months to build this castle, *after* we start quarrying the stone! My lads study bills alone will be about 800 per month, and the bank wants to know where it's gonna come from. *Harvest* opium, hell, I'm ready to smoke some!. Ah, well. A megalomaniacs work is never done.
"I love the smell of pillaging in the morning. It's the smell of ... victory."
A long long time ago in a land far far away, the AOO ruled with the dark forces at their command. They would have ruled for a very long time, except for a group of rebels who believed in a force for good. Yes, they believed in Atnerks. It was Atnerks who would provide for them in this time of oppression.
Aye! finally away from Provinia & on a boat! I hope Ulmo treats us better than did the AOO.
Is it true that Marat is indulging in charity and handing out blankets?
They are probably carefully broken in by his cadre of slaves with smallpox, first.
Shay Tollin slammed his fist on the map-strewn table. "Do you realize what you are asking for? You would disrupt trade from Aethelarn to Newleaf! Think of what it could do to the Cloudlands! You could be risking the wrath of Aknerks himself!"
The Duke head jerked upward at the noise, as if waking from a nap. "What? Wrath? Cloudlands? What is he talking about Athelfrar? Tollin, isn't it? Why are you still here?"
Count Athelfrar moved closer and whispered something to the Duke, then said, "No danger at all, my lord. You know these priests, always talking gloom and doom, and nothing ever comes of it. Everything is perfectly safe. You will go now and you WILL make the preparations, Tollin."
"Yes. Yes. Of Course. Preparations. Run along now..."
Shay Tollin whirled around, slamming the dining hall doors behind him as he left. By the time he reached the parapet, the sparks from his eyes had abated. "If the damned Duke wants his ruination, then so be it! May the Wanderer protect all the innocents he will take with him!"
I think I've seen 3 different Odin's wandering around the Imperial City. Can't we do something about this people? But I'll tell you this: I go to war with the first Lastat I see. :)

what's the difference between marat and the other AOO? only those animals born in the wild can be tamed by beastmasters
Q: How may Oleg the Loudmouths does it take to light a torch?
A: None. The AOO killed him and stole all the torches.

The previous rumor printed in the Times was in error. MAFOC is not a creation of the AOO elite; the AOO, in fact, is merely a fragment of the might of MAFOC, as the "Duke" will soon discover. Chaos, as always, rules behind the scene, while the puppets appease the masses.
Has anyone found a trade route worth devoting a noble to? (No, I don't expect you to reveal it - yes or no is good enough.) So far all I've found to be profitable is to fish and sell the catch.

CYRKARTH, PROVINIA (OP) - Carrier pigeons are lost. Over the past few months observers have noted a remarkable increase in lost or delayed pigeons. In at least one instance a pigeon traveled from the Imperial City to Aethelarn via Tollus. Large financial losses and even some deaths are attributed to such delays.
A number of theories have been proposed to explain this phenomenon. OP talked with Selena, Professor of Geomancy at the Cykarth Institute of Thaumaturgy.
OP: How do you explain this problem ?
S: As you understand a weak but pervasive mana field covers all of Olympia. The field lines run generally from east to west. Of course you are aware that carrier pigeons are capable of sensing those field lines and use them to navigate.
OP: Of course.
S: However, over the past few months there has been a distortion in the field lines. It began when the lines started changing direction over a limited area. Over time that area has grown and so has the strength of the field lines.
OP: But who could be responsible for that ?
S: Not who, but what. While it is theoretically conceivable that a mage might be able to change the fields in a small region, no known mage or even group of mages could possibly have the strength to bring about the changes we have seen. From this I conclude that what we are observing is a natural phenomenon, albeit a geographically centered one.
OP: Can you tell us where ?
S: In principle, yes. The field lines have bent inward towards paths which seem to cross in a particular area. Regrettably it is difficult to measure the field exactly due to its fluctuations. Our best guess is that the center is somewhere in central Provinia or northern Atnos, maybe western Provinia. As the disturbance increases in strength we'll have better estimates.
OP: You mean the strength is still increasing ? Any end in sight ?
S: Yes, there is a limit on how strong the field can become before the spontaneously and cataclysmically discharge in a manaquake.
OP: "Manaquake" ? You make that sound pretty scary, prof.
S: Let's just say that this summer I'll take a prolonged sabbatical which I intend to spend in sunny Rimmon.
Where could a newbie safely learn Beastmastery?
Another delay! I have lost faith in my fellows and I am going to try to swim to shore this month. I hope I make it. If I do I shall have a few words with my "friends". If not I shall be fish food and it will not matter to anyone anymore.
Circle the wagons! The war drums are beating! Defend yourselves or flee for your lives!
A dangerous beast has been seen swimming around in the waters south of Tollus. It is unknown if this beast can be slain without some weird artefact, so beware!
> PS: 1000 gold (and the favour of the AOO) to anyone who can provide > the body of Captain Tarkus (dead or alive).
Let's see: start with 12 NPs, make 12 nobles who annoy the Big Rat, kill them, collect 12000 plus the favour of the AOO for a net value of 6000 and a very rich personal noble. Sounds good to me.
Riddle of the Week: How does one build a castle without Mountains? (I don't have answer, does anyone???)

Announcing the opening of The Blue Blood Forge, clothier to the heroic
We have long noted that Olympia lacks a source of quality clothing for the Heroic Noble. Now with our line of fine clothing the true noble no longer has to be mistaken for a shabby peasant because he is attired in simple cloth. Gem setters are ready to encrust your clothes in the jewels of your choice. Some of the best goldsmiths in Olympia are waiting to make whaterver alterations you may needed. We also have loincloths and capes in the finest exotic leathers and furs to be found.
You can find our shop on Spitting Dog Lane in the Imperial City
Travellers on Tollus should be particularly cautious. A pack of rabid ratspiders has attacked and devoured several nobles in the past few months.
